It's not an anti-tech thing, but a privacy thing. Every librarian I've ever known is incredibly hardcore about protecting the privacy of patrons. "Patron information" and "social networking" probably never show up in the same sentence at any ALA gatherings. But it's a neat idea. :0) There's kind of a trade off; in theory, libraries need to be able to protect the ability of patrons to keep their reading choices secret. For example, we never ever send overdue notices to students <i>homes</i>, because what if a parent opened the notice? Of course, tech-savvy people often won't care or will know how to be careful, but there you go...
