Jesus is the first generation of leadership.
The church is responsible to train its leaders (not seminaries or others).
Question: “How did the New Testament Church train its leaders?”
It is simple/basic – the church is responsible to train leaders to lead the church.
The harvest is ready – don’t have time to send folks away (to seminary) for 4 years.
Find your “Timothys” and pour into them. Then tell them to do the same.
This is really “normal Christianity” – every believer reproducing believers, every church reproducing churches.
Hi Aaron! Hoping to catch up with you soon about “making some connections” and a “field trip”. . wondering if that sounds too cryptic? Anyway. . Call when you get back in town. . Love the posts and updates. . Not sure I agree with the seminary comment. I used to . . but not once I went and truly saw the value. . . I also think in drawing from a first century context we truly underestimate the religious training the first “leaders” had. religous training, teaching, memorization of scripture, respect for torah, the disciplines of faith etc. were all intwined with Jewish culture. . . It would be hard to find the paralell or similar expression with todays “leaders”. The most important thing I learned in seminary was I didnt know anything!
TJ – I’d love to catch up about “making some connections” and a “field trip”! Holla at me next week when you have some time.
