The Story of the New Testament

So for my Bible 10, New Testament, class I had the following question on the final: “Tell the story of the New Testament.” The students did a great job. Here are a couple of their responses – used with their permission and names left off to protect identities:

“The story of the New Testament is a long one. It starts out with the story of Jesus. How Mary and Joseph got together, went to Bethlehem and where Mary had Jesus. Jesus grew older and began preaching and performing miracles. In the end Jesus died for our sins and rose again on the third day. After that the story is how the apostles spread the word and the K.O.G. Paul was one of the ones who wrote most of the Bible. He wrote many letters to churches all over to help stablize their foundation with Christ. In the end John had a revelation of the second coming and wrote the book of Revelation.”

“Alright, so Jesus is born from a virgin in a manger. When He grows up He’s walking around town to town performing miracles. He gets 12 dudes (disciples) to follwo Him to tell the tale. The Government doesn’t like Him. One of His friends rats Him out, the Romans whack Him and He comes back, thus Easter. So these guys who followed Jesus around are telling people all over the place how to live, so thye are on the track to Heaven.”

Good stuff. The others were good too. My hope was to see if and how they perceived and understood the big picture. Too often we get bogged down in the details and miss the overarching storyline. I was pleased with how much they “got it”.
