Last night in class, “Why Music Matters: Music and Mission in Contemporary Culture“, we talked about technology and music and how that impacts our mission and the church. Barry Taylor, our prof, told us how in Britain (he’s British) turntables are now outselling guitars as the hot new musical intstruments to buy. All this to say…. how does this effect how we do church? I’m especially interested in how this impacts house churches. Is electronic music (and other multi-media experiences) outside of the realm of house church that is more organic and, well, “homey”?

Actually, I think that perhaps this new expression of worship is more organic than it may appear. I can (and most Jr. Highers) create electronic music on my computer in a short period of time. It’s just one more step to bring that as an offering of worship for the community of faith – even (maybe especially) a house church.
